Featured, job loss

Ohio FlagIt’s official. Siemens Energy & Automation is closing a plant in Ohio that will eliminate 88 jobs in the coming months.

The news was confirmed by Business First of Columbus Friday via a state filing. The Georgia-based company told officials the closure of the plant near Rickenbacker International Airport could come as soon as Dec. 17.

Siemens Energy & Automation, a subsidiary of German manufacturer Siemens AG, makes electrical and electronic products for industrial and construction customers.

According to the report, Siemens has already trimmed hundreds of jobs from its Ohio operations and the latest closure was first proposed more than two years ago, but was delayed several times because of the economic downturn. It’s part of the company’s consolidation plan to improve delivery times, according to Business Journal.
