Motorola Solutions has cut 175 employees from its ranks. The majority of the layoffs came from within the company’s WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) technology group.
Jobs were cut in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Fort Worth, Texas, and Tempe Arizona.
Spokeswoman for Motorola Solutions, Tama McWhinny, claims that the WiMax market is now smaller than they had anticipated and that the company is looking for ways to save money. “But this doesn’t mean we’re leaving WiMax,” she added.
Motorola Solutions now employs around 7,500 employees. Later this year, they will transfer over their Networks Division to Nokia Siemens Networks, pending approval from the Chinese government.
